It was once number one in the world Daniel Medvedev he earned his 16th career title on Sunday with a hard-fought three-set victory over Jannik Sinner in the Rotterdam ATP final.
Medvedev won 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 against his Italian opponent who won the Montpellier tournament at the end of the week.
The 27-year-old Russian won his career on the match against Sinner with 6-0 and will return to the world top 10 on Monday.
“I came here for the first time in 2018 and I liked it,” said former US Open champion Medvedev.
“I’m happy to be back here. The last two times I played here were very bad and I’m happy to improve this year.”
On Sunday, Medvedev won on the back of converting five of 12 break points and making only 17 mistakes in Sinner’s 30.
“Daniil, congratulations to you and your team for winning your first championship of the season,” he said. Sinnerswho will rise from second place to number 12 in the world in the new ranking.
“I think you will win many more this year, so I wish you good luck. It has been a good two weeks for me. I played a lot of games and I am very proud.”
